Sept 10-12: Thetis Island, BC
Friday 9/10 2010Sept 10:
Telegraph Harbour, Thetis Island, BC, (long:48º 58' 649" / lat: 123º 40' 130")
Departed Maple Bay 11:25, traveled 14.3 miles and arrived at the Thetis Island Marina & Pub in Telegraph Harbour at 13:25.
The rustic docks at the marina added to it's eclectic charm as did it's resident great blue heron.
This marina is a social hub for Telegraph Harbour, with islanders and boaters meeting, greeting, talking, drinking and eating on the restaurant/pub veranda and the guest dock. We did our own meeting and greeting when Nancy & Larry arrived on their boat, the Jacari Maru.
Friday afternoon, the weather cleared long enough for a long walk around to the head of the harbor, where we found the "honor store". The sound of classical music entices you off the road and into this little cottage with no staff, just tables and shelves and refrigerators full of fresh homemade bread, cheese, meat, cookies, jams, jellies, etc. Everything is priced and you leave your money in the box marked "Please pay here". We bought bread and cheese.
The rain and fog returned so we spent the next two days meeting, eating and learning (our friends have 30+ years cruising experience) with Nancy & Larry waiting for the weather to clear up.
Waiting for better weather.
